Description

We’ve got another special teatime this week, as OIST lays down a challenge for everyone – it’s time to flex your presentation muscles as today at 16:00, we’re launching Okinawa’s first ever Three Minute Thesis competition!

Three Minute Thesis (or 3MT as all the cool kids are calling it) challenges everyone with a thesis to give a clear and concise explanation of it in just three minutes, using only one static slide to back you up. Competition organizer Tom Burns says it’s not as hard as it sounds: “it’s a great experience to learn what presenting feels like, and pick up some key skills on the way.”

“As scientists, we only survive in research if we can clearly explain the benefits to general audiences – governments, stakeholders, the public. 3MT gives you the chance to hone those communication skills” says Tom.

It’s also a chance to have some friendly competition, with the chance for presenters to win a trip to the international finals in Australia.

So if you’ve got a thesis and a little bit of showmanship, sign up here, and don’t forget to come to teatime for a special introduction from President Peter Gruss.

“3MT really builds bridges – you never know who you’ll connect with, and where that can take you.”
