Amongst the many challenges that our generation must face, deforestation stands out as one of the most urgent. It is currently the single greatest contributor to global warming, and it is also a primary cause of what is believed to be the highest species extinction rate since the age of the dinosaurs. Today about half of our planet's forests remain, and as the rate of deforestation rapidly accelerates year after year, it is believed that 70%-90% of deforestation is performed illegally. If we are to solve this problem, illegal logging must be halted.

Rainforest Connection, a San Francisco-based startup, aims to address this problem head on. The whole system is built with recycled smartphones powered with solar panels and hidden in trees.
