Updated SAP Covid-19 Guidelines
SAP 新型コロナウイルス感染症対策の方針の更新
As you may have seen in the message that was sent out in November, the CDC and SAP have updated their Covid-19 General Procedures. Please be sure to thoroughly read through the document. It can also be found on the the SAP webpage, under Covid-19 Information.
Thank you all for your continuous support and cooperation in all Covid-19 preventative measures. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and notify you of any updates to our current policy.

皆様には、Covid-19のすべての予防措置に対する継続的なご支援とご協力をお願いします。今後も状況を注視し、現行の方針が更新された場合には皆様にお知らせします。

Friendzy SEL Class
Friendzy 社会性と情緒の学習クラス
From Janunary, the SAP will begin holding weekly SEL classes at the Seaside House. The Education Coordinator has also expressed interest in the curriclum, so Mr. Neil and Anne-Sensei will be leading the class. The Friendzy curriculum teaches the core competencies of Social and Emotional Learning such as self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills. These competencies are presented throughout the curriculum in a variety of ways to support ALL learning styles.
Students today with smartphones and devices, are the most technologically connected, yet mostly socially disconnected generation that has ever existed. Friendzy teaches and empowers kids to have healthy relationships and build strong communities.
The class will be open to any child attending the SAP Afterschool Program/Holiday Program. We are aiming for a January 18th, 2022 (1/18/22) startdate, which is a Tuesday.
The classes will be held for children in grades K-2 on Tuesdays, and grade 3-6 on Thursdays, weekly, from 4:30pm-5:15pm (45min.).
We need at least 5 children to sign-up in order to open the class. Please fill out the attached webform if you are interested in having your child participate.

1月から、SAPはシーサイドハウスで毎週SEL(社会性と情緒の学習)クラスを開催することになりました。教育コーディネーターもこのカリキュラムに興味を示したため、ニール先生とアン先生がクラスを担当することになりました。Friendzyのカリキュラムは、自己認識、自己管理、責任ある意思決定、社会性の認識、人間関係のスキルなど、社会性と情緒の学習の核となる能力を教えるものです。これらの能力は、カリキュラム全体を通してさまざまな方法で提示され、すべての学習スタイルをサポートします。
スマートフォンやデバイスが普及した現代の学生は、これまでにないほど技術的なつながりが強い一方で、社会的なつながりが希薄な世代です。Friendzyは、子どもたちが健全な人間関係を築き、強いコミュニティを構築することを教え、できるようにします。
このクラスは、SAPアフタースクールプログラム／ホリデープログラムに参加しているお子さんならどなたでも参加できます。開始日は2022年1月18日の火曜日を予定しています。
クラスは、幼稚園生～2年生が火曜日、3～6年生が木曜日、毎週16:30-17:15(45分)に行われます。
クラスを開講するためには、最低でも5人のお子さんの登録が必要です。お子さまの参加をご希望の方は、添付のウェブフォームにご記入ください。

Fire Safety in the SAP
SAPの火災対策
Last month the Onna Fire Department came to visit the SAP students and staff and teach them about the importance of fire safety. The 2 main points that the fire fighters wanted the children to remember is that if there is a fire, they should run away (covering their nose and mouth with a handkerchief or their shirt), and then notify an adult. The firefighters taught the children that the most frightening things in a fire are the actual fire and the smoke. They went on to explain the dangers associated with fire and smoke.
Initally, we had planned to allow the children to use the extinguishers, but were advised that it is not a best practice for children to be doing. One very important thing that the fire fighter taught everyone was that children should never think about using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire, they should first think about escaping. The children can however, tell the adults where a fire extinguisher is located if they know.
At the SAP we have a fire safety plan and escape routes posted in each room. There are 2 fire extinguishers in the classroom, and 1 outside in the hallway. The teachers are all trained in what to do in the event of a fire.
We would like to thank the Onna Fire Department for taking the time to stop by and explain the importance of fire safety to the children.
先月、恩納消防署の方がSAPの生徒とスタッフを訪問し、火災安全の重要性について教えてくれました。消防隊員が子どもたちに覚えておいてほしい2つのポイントは、「火事が起きたら、ハンカチやシャツで鼻と口を覆って逃げ、それから大人に知らせる」ということです。また、火事で一番怖いのは火と煙であることを子どもたちに教えてくれました。そして、火と煙の危険性についても説明してくれました。
当初、子どもたちに消火器を使わせる予定でしたが、「子どもが消火器を使うのはベストではない」というアドバイスを受けました。消防士の方が教えてくれた大切なことは、子どもたちは消火器を使って火を消そうと考えてはいけない、まず逃げることを考えるべきだということでした。しかし、子どもたちは、消火器の場所を知っていれば、大人に教えることができます。
SAPでは防火計画を立て、各部屋に避難経路を掲示しています。消火器は教室に2つ、廊下に1つあります。先生方は全員、火災発生時の対処法についてトレーニングを受けています。
恩納消防署の方々には、時間を割いて立ち寄っていただき、子どもたちに火災安全の重要性を説明してくれたことに感謝しています。
Farewell Natasha-Sensei
さよならナターシャ先生
We are saddened to inform you that November was Natasha-Sensei's last month with The School-Aged Program. Over the past year, Natasha-Sensei has been an integral part of the program. Her energy, positive attitude, and support will be greatly missed.
It is not all sad news though, because Natasha will still be working on the OIST campus, at the Marine Science Station. Again we want to say a big THANK YOU! to Natasha from all the staff and children here at the OIST School-Aged Program.
11月は、ナターシャ先生の小中学校プログラムでの最後の月となりました。この1年間、ナターシャ先生はプログラムの重要な役割を担ってきました。彼女のエネルギー、前向きな姿勢、そしてサポートがなくなるのはとても残念です。
しかし、悲しいことばかりではありません。ナターシャ先生は引き続きOISTのキャンパス、マリンサイエンスステーションで働くことになっています。 ナターシャ先生には、OISTの小中学校プログラムのスタッフと子どもたち全員から、改めて「ありがとう！」と伝えたいと思います。

Be sure to regularly check the SAP webpage for updated information on Holiday Program dates. Please remember that in order to receive services, you must sign up two business days in advance to the required services.
If you would like to order lunch and snacks, you must do so by the 20th of the month prior to the required services. Holiday Program space is available on a first-come first served-basis.
