Tabata HIIT Class
What is Tababta HIIT Class?
Tabata training is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. Tabata training was discovered by Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi Tabata and a team of researchers from the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo. Tabata and his team conducted research to test which style of training was most effective at increasing an individual’s aerobic (cardiovascular) and anaerobic (muscle) fitness. Their findings proved that groups undertaking high intensity (HIIT) training displayed the greatest increase in aerobic and anaerobic fitness.
Why is Tabata training so efficient? … High-intensity interval training in general is especially effective at burning fat because it requires your body to work hard to return to a resting state (a phenomenon called EPOC, or excess post-exercise oxygen consumption), so you continue to burn calories long after you've toweled off.
What does Tabata training look like? …In these sessions the training periods last for 20 seconds, while the rest period is 10 seconds. The work and rest periods are repeated for a total of four minutes per round. These four-minute rounds are then repeated for a total of 6 to 8 rounds. While Tabata work is shorter than your traditional HIIT, it pushes the heart rate to its max.
Tabata is great if you are short on time and require a quick workout, if you need to switch up your standard workout routine, or you want to improve your overall endurance and speed.
*Please note: this class can be intense and is highly cardio based.
As the AM & PM classes are the same I would recommend only participating in 1 class per week.
