Proof of Concept Program Showcase and Networking Event
On December 8th, OIST Innovation held a special showcase event for its Proof of Concept (POC) program. This event brought together 15 researchers to give brief presentations on their innovative POC projects from a very diverse scientific fields. For instance, ion traps and cavities showcased the potential to revolutionize the field of quantum computing, while other life science presentations unveiled cutting-edge solutions for enhancing analgesia and suppressing tolerance in opioid treatment. One of the neuroscience presentations delved into the complexities of the human brain, offering insights into novel technologies to access molecular information in the brains of living patients. Environmental sciences and biology presentations explored the great applications that the natural world can display, specially regarding bacteria, from new solutions for PFAS degradation to advancements in wastewater treatment in pig farms. These exciting presentations were not just about individual achievements; they were windows into collaborative possibilities and the collective pursuit of knowledge.
One of the key goals of OIST Innovation is to contribute to community building among scientists actively developing technologies. Under the POC program, researchers from very specialized fields that don't normally interact were provided a space to share ideas and discover shared interests. The brief, lively presentations helped the participants break down their complex work into easy-to-grasp concepts perfect for stimulating discussion and future teamwork. An informal networking session followed, allowing researchers to mingle over drinks and food.
This event served as a prologue to a more connected scientific future. By uniting passionate minds across diverse research fields, OIST Innovation is shaping the future of innovation through joint efforts greater than the sum of their parts.
