Title:
Implications of ERBB2 amplification
Abstract:
Gene amplification is one of major genetic alterations in human cancers. Amplified genomic regions, called amplicons, usually contain “driver” genes that are responsible for tumorigenesis, for example, EGFR, ERBB2, or MYC. Co-amplified genes in the same amplicon as a driver gene have been thought to be “passenger” genes that do not play important roles in cancer cells, therefore, they have not been studied extensively so far. Previously we reported that an adaptor protein-encoding gene GRB7 was coamplified with ERBB2 gene in the same amplicon and cooperatively transformed NIH3T3 cells with ERBB2. In this talk I will about another example, HNF-1B in the same amplicon as a putative oncogenic and metastatic-promoting gene.
