Postdoc Positions

The Theory of Quantum Matter Unit (TQM) at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is seeking to recruit two Postdoctoral Scholars.

The TQM group carries research in the broad area of condensed matter theory, making use of both numerical and analytic techniques. Themes currently represented include topological aspects of magnetism, quantum spin liquids, gauge theories, statistical mechanics, unconventional magnetic excitations, multiferroics, and multipolar order. Applications from candidates with experience in complementary areas of theoretical physics are also welcome. The group also maintains strong links with experimental groups developing and studying new quantum materials.

Postdocs in the TQM Unit are expected to engage in creative, curiosity-driven research, and are encouraged to develop their own independent interests, as well as collaborating with existing group members.

Postdoctoral positions will normally be held for a period of three years, and are paid on a competitive scale, with additional benefits including health insurance, access to on-site child care, support for relocation, and a housing allowance.   The start date for the positions will notionally be in September 2018, but is open to negotiation.

Please send a CV with publication list; a cover letter and/or research statement, briefly outlining accomplishments and ambitions for future research; and copies of 2-3 papers (or preprints) representing the candidate’s most interesting work to date; by email to :

Candidates should also arrange for a minimum of two letters of recommendation to be sent on their behalf.

Applications will be considered until the posts are filled.
