The Essential Roles of DE&I: Challenges and Opportunities for Universities [Dr. Karin Markides, OIST President and CEO]

On December 4th (Monday), from 4:30 pm to 5:40 pm, the University of the Ryukyus will host the 17th Ryudai Future Forum × Diversity Promotion Top Seminar online, featuring Dr. Karin Markides, President and CEO of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology.

During the seminar, Dr. Markides will share her experiences as a scientist, professor, and university leader, and the “role of universities in the 21st century” as a place to convene various stakeholders and nurture future leaders. Additionally, considering the gender gap as a significant obstacle to achieving Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I), she will elaborate on the essential concept of "DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion)" for realizing a more sustainable society.

Participation is free, and simultaneous interpretation in Japanese and English will be provided. Pre-registration is required. Please apply through the University of the Ryukyus website.

フォーラムでは、カリン・マルキデス学長のこれまでの科学者・教授・大学運営陣としてのご経験について、そして様々な関係者を巻き込み、将来のリーダーを育成する場としての「21世紀における大学の役割」について、お考えを伺います。

また、ジェンダーギャップはDE&Iの実現に向けた大きな障害であるという観点から、より持続可能な社会を実現するために必要不可欠な「DE&I（Diversity, Equity & Inclusion）」の概念についてもお話しいただきます。
