Prospective Postdocs

Definition of "Postdoctoral Scholar"

According to OIST policy library: “a Postdoctoral Scholar is an individual recently graduated with a doctoral degree who is engaged in a temporary period of mentored research and scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue an independent research career of their own choosing.  The Faculty has a high level of responsibility when employing Postdoctoral Scholars, and therefore training and development for their career is a primary objective.  Postdoctoral Scholars are essential to the scholarly mission of the faculty member, their research unit and the University, so it is important that these scholars be mentored to pursue research projects that promote their own scholarship.  To that end, the Postdoctoral Scholars are expected to participate in determining their own research project(s) and will have the freedom to publish the results of their scholarship at the University.”
