サイエンスプロジェクトfor琉球ガールズ～vol.7～

3月24・25日にかけて、県内の高校に通う30名の女子生徒たちが、「サイエンスプロジェクトfor琉球ガールズ-vol.7-」に参加しました。OISTで行われた今回のプログラムは、まず2つの講義から始まりました。初めにOIST発達神経生物学ユニットのゲイル・トリップ教授からは、彼女の研究者としての人生、またADHDに関する研究についての紹介がありました。次に、琉球大学教育学部の岡本牧子准教授の講演では、エンジニアリングの楽しさについて実験を交えて感じてもらいました。さらに、OIST、琉球大学の学生からは学校・研究生活の紹介や進路に関するメッセージを伝えてもらいました。それらを踏まえ、参加者には今回のプロジェクトとして5人1組の６つのグループに分かれてもらい、「ひみつ道具」を考えてもらいました。最初は緊張した様子の生徒たちでしたが、時間が経つにつれ議論も白熱し、最終発表では女子高校生ならではの柔軟かつ豊かなアイデアの数々を披露してくれました。

On March 24^th and 25^th, “Science Project for Ryukyu Girls - Vol.7-” was held at OIST and 30 female high school students from Okinawa joined this event. During the event, Professor Gail Tripp (Human Developmental Neurobiology Unit, OIST) shared her scientific journey and her studies on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Associate Professor Makiko Okamoto (the Faculty of Education, University of the Ryukyus) introduced a fun approach to study engineering.  After the lectures, students from OIST and the University of the Ryukyus shared information about their interests in science and their future career plans. Students were separated into six groups of five and tasked with inventing a “magic tool” that might become a reality in the future.  Initially the girls were a little but once they got to know each other and started their group discussions, they gradually opened up to their team members.  The final presentations were full of very unique and interesting ideas and the girls enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this hands-on science event.
