Macronutrients
What are Macronutrients:
Macronutrients are the nutrients that your body needs in large amounts to function daily.
The 3 main macronutrients are, Carbohydrates, Fats and Protein. These 3 macronutrients are considered essential nutrients, thus meaning your body either cannot make them or make enough of them to function optimally.
Proteins = essential amino acids
Fats = essential fatty acids
Carbohydrates = contain energy in the form of calories, carbs are the bodies main source of energy
*Note: our bodies can use other macronutrients for energy if needed.
Calorie Content of each Macronutrient:
-Carbs: 4 calories per gram
-Protein: 4 calories per gram
-Fat: 9 calories per gram
