Title: Materials for quantum computing: On and off the beaten path
Speaker: Dr. Giordano Scappucci, QuTech TU Delft
Abstract of Talk: The semiconductor industry knows how to make and integrate billions of excellent transistors. These transistors define the current information age. What materials do we need to integrate excellent qubits at large scale for the quantum information age of tomorrow? How will we measure at scale the quantum properties of these materials to accelerate progress in the field? I will examine the materials science progress underpinning silicon and germanium-based planar heterostructures, review our most significant experimental results demonstrating key building blocks for quantum technology, and identify the most promising avenues toward scalable quantum information processing.
Profile of Speaker: Dr Giordano Scappucci leads the development of semiconductor materials for quantum computing at QuTech, TU Delft. The silicon-germanium quantum materials developed by Giordano’s team enabled landmark experiments in the field of quantum information and are used by researchers globally for the development of quantum technologies. Giordano published more than 100 journal articles (for example in Nature, Science, Nature Review Materials) and has given over 50 invited talks at international conferences, universities, research institutes and industry.
