Mindful Communication:

This public speaking seminar covers the crucial elements of any oral engagement. Topics include: finding common ground, sharing personal connection, focusing the central theme, painting vivid examples, and posing baby steps forward. For the OIST community, there will be examples from science, administration, and policy. Finally, the seminar poses ways to keep repetitive information fresh and interesting for everyone involved.

 

All OIST employees interested in improving their communication skills are welcome to attend.

Instructor: Mr. Scott Morgan, President of the Morgan Group, LLC.

 

About the Instructor:

Scott Morgan has been teaching leadership and communication skills for over 30 years. His clients include nearly all of the institutes at the National Institutes of Health and dozens of universities (Harvard Medical School, UC Berkeley, Cornell, Duke). Corporate clients include Otsuka Pharmaceuticals, Merck, Celgene, AstraZeneca, Galderma Skincare, GE Appliances, Schneider Electric, Mandiant Cybersecurity, Infosys, International Paper, FireEye and Tanium. With 30 years of broadcast experience, Scott teaches media and communication strategy to many think tanks and research organizations around the globe with clients from Japan, Central Asia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Uganda, and South Africa. He is a Senior Mentor at the Leadership Academy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), graduated with honors from the University of California Davis, and holds a master’s degree in psychology from Columbia University. He authored the book Speaking about Science published by Cambridge University Press (2006) and launched a mindfulness app for young adults called 3rdi in 2014. www.MorganGp.com
