"Entrepreneurship, Failure, and Resilience"

ABSTRACT:
Failure has always been part of the entrepreneurial lexicon, but it is noticeably absent from entrepreneurship education. Is success the only lens from which we should teach? If not, then how can we teach failure? What is the role of culture in our fear of failure and what implications does this have for entrepreneurship development at the societal level? We will discuss these complicated questions ad others in this session.

BIO:
Dr. Yamakawa explores the stimulants and constraints behind entrepreneurial learning and growth. His current research interests include: learning from entrepreneurial failure, dilemmas inherent in corporate venturing activities, failure of industry emergence, and bankruptcy laws and entrepreneurship development around the world. Dr. Yamakawa received a Bachelor degree from Keio University (Japan), an MBA from the Peter Druker School of Management (USA), and a PhD in Entrepreneurship from the University of Texas (USA).
