Workshop Abstract

Since Okinawa is a prefecture located far from mainland Japan, there are few opportunities for students in Okinawa to perform research. Therefore, we propose the IEEE society to build an Okinawa joint-chapter as a platform of research and education between universities and colleges. This year, Dr. Fukuda, who is a 2019 president elect, will introduce IEEE activates and his research. In addition, several leaders from industries related to Minimal Fab will present recent progress on Minimal Fab technologies. Minimal Fab has much potential to replace traditional industrial models since it has no need of clean rooms and opens the market for economically viable half-inch substrates. Minimal Fab can also be used for research in the fields of IC, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and new material technologies. Moreover, Minimal Fab can be applied as-is to promote industry in Okinawa. Also, researchers in OIST, Okinawa College, and Ryukyu University can incorporate Minimal Fab in educational research projects to enhance the research system in Okinawa. In this workshop, our researchers exchange information with each other, and for the purpose of Okinawa and Japan, future education and business model will be constructed.
