Biography:
Dr. Hiroko Sho earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science in 1954, and master’s degree in Nutritional Science in 1956 from Michigan State University, and her doctoral degrees in Agriculture in 1982 from Kyushu University. In 1997, she was awarded an honorary doctorate in Asian Studies from University of Maryland. She held various positions, including Professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of the Ryukyus, Visiting Professor at Michigan State University, Vice-Governor of Okinawa Prefecture, and Director of the Okinawa Learning Center at the Open University of Japan. Since 2005, she has been involved in founding of OIST. Currently, she serves as Member of the Board of Governors and the Board of Councilors at OIST, Director of Okinawa Association, Councilor of NHK Academy, Director of Okinawa International University, Member of University of the Ryukyus Management Council, Member of Executive Board and Board of Councilors at Okinawa AMICUS International and Board of Councilor at Okinawa Science and Technology Promotion Center.
