Hula Kahiko(Classic) Dance Classes

[Hula Kahiko (Classic)]
Before Western culture was introduced, Hawaii had no written language, and everything that needed to be passed down to future generations was passed down orally. At that time, since mistakes would occur if passed down orally alone, it is said that the beginning of Hula was to leave the correct information for future generations by singing what needed to be preserved and dancing the gestures of that content as Hula. The content of classical dance is diverse, including stories of gods, legends, how to perform religious ceremonies, how to interact with nature, and stories of famous places. Let's learn about the wisdom of Hawaii that has been passed down since ancient times through Hula Kahiko!
【古典Hula

ʻŪniki kumu hula (formal traditional succession kumu hula), Miho Kauanoeanuhea Shinohara
I have studied hula under Kumu Pattye Kealohalani Wright in Hawaiʻi for over 15 years, and in 2022 I officially took the ʻūniki (traditional succession graduation exam) and received the very honorable title of Kumu Hula.
The hula I teach is inherited from Kumu Kea and has a history of more than 100 years. Learning hula is not just learning dance, but also learning Hawaiʻi culture, how to relate to nature as a human being, and the true ALOHA spirit. Hawaiʻian culture holds the secret of "natural living" that people have forgotten in their busy daily lives and modern life. By having the ALOHA spirit, you can liberate yourself and live more easily. I hope that everyone can enjoy this life more and share that enjoyment with everyone.
ʻŪniki kumu hula (伝統正式継承クム・フラ), Miho Kauanoeanuhea(カウアノエアヌヘア)Shinohara
