Ms. Natsumi Sadaoka shares her experience as a research intern at Synapse Biology Unit led by Dr. Yukiko Goda.

Before (2023/8/27)

After (2023/10/19)

1. How and why did you decide to apply for this program?

I decided to apply because I had a great time at the OIST-Keio summer camp last year. I also thought that OIST has the best research facilities and labs which would allow me to learn a lot about research.

2. What was your typical day like as OIST research intern?

I would go to the lab from 9:00-17:00. The schedule depends on the phase of my experiment, I usually would either be doing the RNAscope protocol or using the confocal microscope to observe the mouse brain slices. After that, I would go back to my room and cook or spend time with my friends.

3. Please tell us how you feel about your experience as OIST research intern. (Please include what you like about the program and areas for improvement if any.)

I had an amazing time at OIST. My PI was very nice and she took a lot of time to talk to me and here my concerns. However, there were some times where I felt like I was left alone to do nothing. I understand that it is difficult because the mentor also has other things to do, but a little more support would have been helpful.
