Testimonial: Mr. Kosei Watanabe

Mr. Kosei Watanabe shares her experience as a research intern at Genomics and Regulatory Systems Unit led by Dr. Nicholas M. Luscombe.

Before (2023/7/5)

After (2023/10/17)

1. How and why did you decide to apply for this program?

I wanted to do research at OIST because of the good reputation of my classmates who went to OIST for the summer camp last year. I chose this unit because I was interested in both medicine and computer science, and I wanted to learn bioinformatics.

2. What was your typical day like as OIST research intern?

On weekdays, I did research in the lab from 9:00 to 18:00, and after dinner I would return to the lab to do more research. I also played soccer and tennis with lab members. On weekends, I enjoyed sightseeing in Okinawa, also programming, and reading papers.

3. Please tell us how you feel about your experience as OIST research intern. (Please include what you like about the program and areas for improvement if any.)

Although 4 months was a bit short, it was a quit great experience because I was able to be involved in the lab project and also write my own paper.
