World Quantum Day (Launch Event)
2021-04-15The World Quantum Day is obviously celebrated on April 14, as 4.14 are the rounded first digits of Planck’s constant (in units of eV.s). It aims at engaging the general public in the understanding and discussion of Quantum Science and Technology around the world. This year’s launch event is a presentation by Prof. Alain Aspect (Institut d’Optique Graduate School, Université Paris-Saclay) on one of the fundamental mysteries of quantum mechanics: the duality between waves and particles.
We invite you to watch Prof. Aspect’s presentation (and join a discussion) on Thursday, April 15th at 1pm in B250 (new normal rules and regulations apply).
Language: English
Audience: General public
Title: From Einstein to Wheeler: Wave-Particle duality of a single photon
TQA x OIST Quantum Meeting
2020-11-24 to 2020-11-25Tohoku Quantum Alliance (TQA) from Tohoku University and OIST research groups which focus on quantum physics will have a joint meeting to present their current work and explore future collaboration opportunities.
- This will be mainly held at L4E48 on the 24th and C210 on the 25th following the “New Normal” guidelines. The number of seats at seminar rooms are limited and all seats are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Everyone else from both Tohoku and OIST research communities is welcome to join the seminar by Zoom

"Stirred Bose-Einstein condensates on 1D rings: spectrum and adiabatic excitation" Axel Pérez-Obiol, Kochi University, Japan
2020-03-02Speaker: Dr. Axel Pérez-Obiol, Kochi University of Technology, Japan
Abstract:
We consider BECs on 1D rings at zero temperature stirred by a link. Their spectrum is theoretically analyzed, consisting in dark and gray solitonic trains, and vortex states comoving with the link. We show how to produce these states by adiabatically stirring the condensate from its ground sate: through specific cycles where the velocity and the strength of the link are gradually tuned. The general properties of the spectrum and cycles are studied through the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a delta-type link and in the comoving frame. A set of specific cycles to excite the BEC are reproduced by simulations of the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii with a rotating Gaussian link. More on arXiv:1907.04574.
