Title: Shortcuts to Adiabaticity for Bose-Einstein Condensates

Abstract:

Quantum adiabatic processes -that keep constant the populations in the instantaneous eigenbasis of a time-dependent Hamiltonian-are very useful to prepare, manipulate and control quantum states, but take typically a long time. This is often problematic because decoherence and noise may spoil the desired final state.

"Shortcuts to adiabaticity" are alternative fast quantum control processes which reproduce the same final populations, or even the same final state, as the adiabatic process in a finite, shorter time. We present an introduction to these "shortcuts to adiabaticity".

Especially, we then concentrate on "shortcuts" for the quantum control of Bose-Einstein condensates described by the Gross–Pitaevskii equation.

Finally, we switch back to adiabatic processes and we present a detailed derivation of the effect of Poisson Noise on adiabatic quantum control.

Using this, we simulate various settings to illustrate different effects of Poisson noise. In particular, we show a dip in the fidelity as a function of noise strength where high fidelity can occur in the strong-noise regime for some cases.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the seminar.
