Journal club seminar: A universal transition to turbulence in channel flow

Date

Location

Description

We are going to discuss the paper by  Sano, Tamai Nature Physics 12 (2016) 249
This is an experimental paper, in which the authors study the transition between turbulent and laminar flows in the case of
the so-called channel flow. Their claim is that this transition belongs to a specific universality
class, called directed percolation(DP), which can be described by a quantum field theory.

Hidehiko will also give a brief introduction to DP. A standard reference for DP is a (big) review article: Hinrichsen Adv. Phys. 49 (2010) 815

The textbook reference for DP is  the book by Cardy "Scaling and Renormalization in Statistical Physics" (Chapter 10).
