Are you applying for a PI position? Do you give talks where you need to explain your work quick and simple? Do you enjoy discussing your work and getting ideas from your peers? Science Digest is the place for you. Science digest is preferably following the format of “Chalk Talks”, but the slide presentation is also fine. This is where the speaker talks about their work for about 20 minutes (usually using a chalk board), followed by a lengthy discussion session with everyone present. Once a month, the ORC will host a speaker.
The ORC with the support of the Faculty Affairs Office are conducting a survey this month (March 8th-April 8th) for the research community. The results from this survey will be combined with results from a previous survey done by the students. This survey will likely be repeated on a yearly basis to gauge satisfaction with the research culture and work-life balance of researchers, as OIST continues to grow and expand. Please follow this link to participate in the survey:

Volunteers from OIST Researchers Community (ORC) are needed to serve on the Award Selection Committee.

As of today, November 2nd 2017, the new ORC Office consists of:
- Chair: Panagiotis Grammatikopoulos
- ORC Secretary: Florine Paraz
- Researcher Representatives: Emilio Juarez Perez, Robin Ohmann
- Researcher Representative Alternate: Tapan Sabuwala
- Advisory Board: Georg Fischer, Ivan Koludarov, Michael Kuba, Lars-Goran Ofverstedt, Kirk Sato, Rory Cerbus

The ORC Representatives webpage and webmail list will be updated soon.
The ORC election result was announced by OIST's IT department on November 1st. There were fourty six (46) votes for all three officer positions. The new ORC office will be announced once all positions are filled: the candidates who got the most votes for each position will have to confirm acceptance of the position, and there will have to be internal voting regarding the 2nd Researcher Representative and Researcher Representative Alternate positions, since there were more than two candidates with equal votes.
The OIST Faculty Assembly met on September 23, 2016. ORC representatives Zach Hensel and Giulio Giusteri attended the meeting. There was some discussion of the new KAKENHI application incentives between faculty members and the Dean of Researcher, Mary Collins. The only new information relevant to ORC members came from the VP of Human Resources, Machi Dilworth:
This is an open call to OIST Researchers for suggestions and volunteers to help organize ORC-sponsored academic and social activities. Please see the attached document for a copy of the presentation Zach Hensel gave to the ORC general meeting on Sept. 14. If you're interested in helping to organize something or just have a cool idea, you can e-mail Zach directly (email@example.com), e-mail the ORC officers (firstname.lastname@example.org), submit a comment on the ORC website, or talk to any of us in person.
Please see the attached PDF for a copy of the presentation to the ORC General Meeting on September 14, 2016. It details information from the August 16 Faculty Assembly meeting that may be of interest to OIST researchers. It also includes an overview of the roles of ORC representatives to the Faculty Assembly.
