Background

Since 2019 OIST and Keio University have been collaborating: initiated with the School of Medicine, accepting research interns, and hosting a series of showcase talks to learn about each other's research.

The International Research Summer Camp will be held at OIST for Keio Medical School undergraduate students as part of our efforts to strengthen our educational collaboration. The summer camp is a valuable opportunity for undergraduate students to experience hands-on basic research, under the guidance of outstanding researchers from around the world in a global and interdisciplinary environment.

Objectives

  • Experience cutting-edge research in an interdisciplinary environment that will help shape your future research and career.
  • Experience discussions and experiments in a truly international global environment -- the official language is English, the percentage of non-Japanese faculty members is 62%, and the percentage of non-Japanese students is 81%.
  • Preparation for long-term internships, leveraging Keio’s curriculum changes during the next academic year.

Expected Benefits

By working on a project directed toward specific goals, students are expected to improve their cooperation, initiative, and execution skills. They will also learn the sequence of actions: define the problem, formulate a hypothesis and draw a conclusion, under the supervision of OIST professors and staff scientists during the course. Furthermore, students will be able to develop communication skills essential to thriving on the global stage.
