Title:
Bio-functionalized interfaces for molecule detection at the physical limit
Abstract:
We have demonstrated that label-free, mass-manufacturable, bio-electronic sensors based on capacity-coupled large electrolyte-gated transistors can detect a biomarker at the physical-limit. Selective detection of relevant proteins (e.g. IgG, IgM, CRP) is strikingly demonstrated also in real fluids, such as diluted saliva or whole serum. The sensing mechanism, triggered by the affinity binding event, is explained in terms of a work-function change that is amplified in the gating-field through collective surface interactions. The proposed immunoassay single-molecule transistor platform (SiMoT) is general and can revolutionize the current approach to bio-marker detection.
