Description

Dear All,

Mathematics, Mechanics, and Materials Unit (Fried Unit) would like to invite you to a Seminar by Dr. Joe Welch, London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London.

Date: Monday, July 2, 2018
Time: 14:00-15:00
Venue: C016, Level C, Lab1

Speaker:
Dr. Joe Welch
London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London

Title:
Under pressure. Or, 101 uses for diamond (outside of bling)

Abstract:
Joe will briefly introduce University College London, UCL's historic links with Japan, and the research capabilities and collaboration opportunities available to you at the London Centre for Nanotechnology.

The bulk of the talk will cover the fascinating range of diamond research underway in the diamond electronics group at UCL; from sensing in extreme environments through to 1-dimensional physics and neuroscience.

Due to the breadth of topics to be covered, this will be a talk aimed at a general scientific audience, although there will be time set aside towards the end for more focused discussions. We will have several diamond specialists in the audience who will be able to suggest the potential benefits of utilising diamond's superlative properties in your own research.

Hope to see you there!
