Description
We are pleased to invite the OIST community to a seminar by Fujitsu Launchpad (FLP), Fujitsu’s internal venture-building studio dedicated to transforming advanced technologies and emerging market opportunities into viable new businesses.
During this session, Javier Mata and Toshio Akagi will provide a behind-the-scenes perspective on how a corporate venture studio operates at the intersection of research, engineering, entrepreneurship, and market creation. FLP works closely with Fujitsu’s research organizations to identify promising technologies and develop pathways from laboratory discoveries to real-world applications.
Unlike traditional technology transfer approaches, FLP engages directly in the innovation process, working alongside researchers to explore applications, validate market needs, and develop commercialization strategies through iterative experimentation. The studio also serves as a bridge across Fujitsu’s innovation ecosystem, connecting technical advances with business units, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
For researchers, this seminar offers valuable insight into how industry evaluates emerging technologies, identifies market opportunities, and supports the translation of research into real-world impact.
Whether you are interested in technology commercialization, industry collaboration, entrepreneurship, or innovation management, this seminar will provide practical perspectives from professionals working at the forefront of corporate innovation.

About Fujitsu Launchpad
Fujitsu Launchpad (FLP) is Fujitsu’s venture-building studio, focused on turning promising technologies, ideas, and market opportunities into viable businesses.
FLP works across several areas of innovation and commercialization. One focus is helping Fujitsu business groups explore and build new ventures through rapid experimentation, customer validation, and prototyping. Another is supporting the commercialization of technologies developed within Fujitsu’s research organizations by identifying market opportunities and connecting technical capabilities with real customer needs.
FLP also serves as a bridge across Fujitsu’s innovation ecosystem. The studio works with researchers, business units, startups, and external partners to uncover connections and opportunities that might otherwise remain hidden. This includes helping selected startups engage with Fujitsu business groups and, where appropriate, introducing them to customers and market opportunities. As FLP’s network across Fujitsu has grown, the studio has increasingly focused on facilitating collaboration between groups that may not otherwise work together.
FLP takes a hands-on approach to venture creation. Multidisciplinary teams contribute to opportunity discovery, validation, product development, go-to-market strategy, and commercialization activities, helping move innovations from concept to market.
Through venture building, technology commercialization, startup collaboration, and ecosystem development, FLP helps accelerate the journey from innovation to real-world impact.
