Our Mission
The OIST Innovation Venture Mentoring Service (OIST Innovation VMS) is a dynamic educational program grounded in the belief that the success of emerging businesses is greatly enhanced when visionary entrepreneurs can tap into the insights and counsel of a diverse group of mentors with substantial expertise. By actively supporting entrepreneurs, the OIST Innovation VMS not only nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit within the OIST community but also contributes significantly to advancing innovation. This initiative aligns with OIST's commitment to becoming a global leader in cutting-edge research and technology, as well as a catalyst for an innovation hub in Okinawa.
What is VMS?
VMS is a free and confidential mentoring service for entrepreneurs in the OIST community.
Inspired by the MIT Venture Mentoring Service, our program ensures that entrepreneurs receive comprehensive support from experienced mentors. Embracing conflict-free and impartial guidance, the OIST Innovation VMS fosters an environment conducive to transforming innovative ideas into successful ventures.
Entrepreneurs are matched with 2-4 experienced mentors who meet regularly as a team to provide mentorship and guidance.
Mentoring sessions are usually conducted via Zoom, but we are also committed to maximizing opportunities for in-person mentoring sessions and networking events to keep our community of mentors and mentees engaged and connected.
Current Pilot Program
We are currently conducting a 6-month pilot mentoring program to test feasibility, effectiveness, and potential impact before broader implementation. Nineteen skilled mentors are guiding eight ventures participating in the OIST Innovation Accelerator and Proof of Concept Program. After gathering feedback and insights, we will launch the full-scale program, welcoming more mentors and venture teams from the OIST community, including alumni.
