Title: One-shot purity distillation using local noisy operations and one-way classical communication.

Speaker: Aditya Nema

Abstract of Talk :Local pure states represent a fundamental resource in quantum information theory. In this work we obtain one-shot achievable bounds on the rates for local purity distillation, in the single-party and in the two-party cases. In both situations, local noisy operations are freely available, while in the two-party case also one-way classical communication can be used. In addition, in both situations local pure ancillas can be borrowed, as long as they are discounted from the final net rate of distillation. The one-shot rates that we obtain, written in terms of mutual information-like quantities, are shown to recover in the limit the asymptotic i.i.d. rates of Devetak [PRA, 2005], up to first order analysis. The achievable rate in the bipartite setting requires a modification of a recent one-shot measurement compression theorem by Chakraborty et al. and uses several one-shot information theoretic techniques that cannot be inferred in a a straight forward way from the known asymptotic Shannon information theory.

Profile of Speaker: I obtained my PhD from STCS TIFR, Mumbai in 2020 in the area of Quantum Information theory with focus on the applications of concentration of measure in quantum information. From January 2021-March 2023, I have worked as a specially appointed assistant Prof. at Graduate School of Informatics, Nagoya University towards resource theory and quantum information theory with a short fruitful visit at OIST with Prof. David Elkouss. From April 2023, I will be working as a postdoc in the Institute of Quantum Information at RWTH Aachen, Germany.
