About the Workshop

Got a research idea with potential? Wondering how to translate it into real-world impact? This hands-on Lean Startup workshop is your first step into the world of research-based entrepreneurship.

Guided by Professor Takata, a leading expert in university spin-offs and tech transfer, you’ll learn how to transform your research project into a viable business concept using the Lean Startup framework—an intuitive, one-page tool used by founders and innovators worldwide.

Who Should Attend

  • Anyone curious about how to commercialize their research idea (interns, RUAs, admins, researchers, and faculty are all welcome)

    • Students will earn 1 PCD unit

  • Current Proof of Concept (POC) and Technology Pioneer Fellow (TPF) teams and those preparing for funding applications

  • Faculty exploring translational science and spin-off potential

No startup experience required—just bring your idea and an open mind. (If you don't have an idea yet then we will give you one to develop in the workshop.)

What you'll do:

  • Learn the fundamentals of the Lean Startup methodology

  • Develop a first draft of your project’s value proposition, customers, and solution

  • Get expert and peer feedback in real time

  • Leave with a solid foundation to build your business case

This session sets the stage for our follow-up AI Jetpack workshop on July 16—where you’ll refine your Lean Startup with MIT’s AI-powered tool.
