Phase transitions occurring at a solid-liquid interface often drive fluid convection in geophysical / astrophysical systems as well as in engineering applications. We study the melting of a pure solid layer driven by the sheared and/or rotation-dominated convection of a layer of liquid, and describe how the morphology of the solid-liquid interface depends on the state of convection in the liquid, and can in turn influence fluid convection.
