Title: Skillful cell behavior in the construction of testate amoebae shells

Abstract:

Before cell division, the unicellular testate amoeba constructs a shell for its daughter cells in the template-free space outside the cell. This shell-constructing behavior, honed by evolution, is like building a house with a series of bricks, a very complex behavior for a single-celled organism. As early as the 1880s, some researchers were intrigued by the shell formation of testate amoebae and made observations. However, more than 140 years later, the shell formation details are poorly understood. Now, in 2024, I will present the surprisingly skillful cellular behavior in the construction of the testate amoeba shell that has been revealed by new techniques.
