Improving Sleep - Please Register Initial Interest
Invited Speaker, Professor Jason Ellis, Director of Sleep Research, Northumbria University, UK.
Sleep is something we often take for granted, until we start to have trouble sleeping. Whether short-term or chronic, sleep difficulties can have profound consequences on health, wellbeing, relationships, productivity and creativity. Although it can sometimes feel we are powerless against times of sleeplessness, there are some straightforward things we can do to create better sleep, without the need for medication.
We are delighted to welcome Professor Jason Ellis, Director of the Northumbria Centre for Sleep Research, who has published pioneering research on a brief intervention which has been effective in 73% of acute insomnia cases - see summary, here. Professor Ellis has sat on the Teaching and Educational Advisory Committee for the Sleep Society (USA), and has presented his research at numerous conferences and invited talks in the UK, Europe, United States and Canada and the rest of the world. He is actively involved in both public and professional engagement activities, speaking at the British Science festival, TEDx conference and the National Science Learning centre. Professor Ellis will present on the importance of sleep and what we can do to improve it. Talks will be open to the whole OIST community, students, staff and family members.

In addition to presenting, Professor Ellis will also train the Ganjuu Wellbeing team in the use of the brief CBT intervention he has developed, so that we can use this to extend the services we offer to address sleep difficulties.
