Bootcamp Description:

The Teaching and Course Design Certificate Program is an introduction to the core components of inclusive, student-centered teaching and effective course design. The program will help you develop pedagogical skills to actively inspire students to support their learning, and apply best practices to create engaging courses. Using a rhetorical lens, participants will also refine their communication skills that are fundamental to every career.

Micro-Credentialing:

Participants who have successfully completed the certificate program will receive a digital badge from C-Hub (link here). A digital credential or badge is a representation of a learning outcome, experience, or competency based on the Open Badges Standard. C-Hub digital credentials are issued and securely verified by Credly, allowing you to share them online easily via social networks like LinkedIn.

Core Components:

The program is organized into five modules each of which contains readings (or sometimes a video), an interactive workshop, and an assignment for which you will receive peer feedback.

The topics of these modules are:

  • Reflections on Teaching and Creating Inclusive Learning Environments
  • Rhetorical Practice: Effective Communication
  • Learning Outcomes and Your Syllabus
  • Active Learning: from Reflections, Think-Pair-Share to Jigsaws and AI Hacks
  • Put it all together: Course Design

Participants will also complete a micro-teaching session, which provides you with the opportunity to gain constructive peer feedback and reflect on your teaching goals.

Program Requirements:

To receive a certificate each participant must:

  • Complete all five modules: to complete a module, you must do the readings (~2 – 3 articles or equivalent); attend the entire workshop, and complete the assignment).
  • Complete a micro-teaching session
  • Submit a final program feedback survey
