Title: Recruiting, Developing, and Retaining Excellent Researchers in the Faculty of Science at the University of Zurich
Abstract: Owen will talk about recruitment, development, and retention of excellence, specifically in the ranks of the faculty in the Faculty of Science at the University of Zurich. He will briefly introduce the University of Zurich and Faculty of science, and then describe structures and processes relevant in recent efforts and measures in the Faculty of Science. The presentation will be relatively short so that more time is available for discussion.
Profile: Owen Petchey is an academic at the University of Zurich, where he has made significant contributions to the field of ecology through both research and education. Serving as a Full Professor in the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, his work spans a broad spectrum of ecology, with a keen interest in understanding the effects of environmental change on biological systems. Owen's role extends beyond teaching and research; since 2020, he has held the position of Vice Dean at the Faculty of Science, demonstrating his commitment to the advancement of scientific leadership, management, and administration.
This event will be followed by an OIST Teatime at Lab 5, which will be a good opportunity to meet the participants of the TSVP Thematic Program on Response Diversity and Ecosystem Stability (TP23RD).
This seminar is a part of the TSVP Thematic Program "Response Diversity and Ecosystem Stability", which runs from March 1 - 29, 2024. OIST students and researchers are welcome to participate in all scientific sessions of the program without registration.
