Description

Join us for a Panel on Careers in Cryptography.
The panel is intended for PhD students or post-docs in Computer Science, Mathematics, and related areas. It will be an opportunity to hear some established researchers talk about their career paths, and to get advice about employment in academia and industry.

The panelists are:

Dr. Hiroshi Onuki is a Project Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Informatics, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo. He also has experience working in industry at Deloitte.

Dr. Monika Trimoska is an assistant professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands. Monica completed her PhD in 2021 and has recently been able to secure a permanent academic position.

Dr. Ha Tran serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Science at the University of Alberta’s Augustana Faculty and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Calgary. Ha's research centers on algebraic number theory, algebraic lattices, elliptic curve isogenies, and post-quantum cryptography applications.

Professor Steven Galbraith is the Head of the Mathematics Department at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Steven has considerable experience with interviewing candidates who are applying for teaching and/or research jobs in Mathematics.

The chair of the panel is Dr. Peter Kutas, who is an Associate Professor at Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary.

There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the panel.

This panel is part of the Thematic Program "Isogeny-Based Cryptography", which runs from January 13 to February 28, 2026. The accompanying school on "Introduction to Isogeny-based Cryptography" will be held from February 9-13, 2026.
