QG group meeting: Long and null strings

Date

Monday, June 28, 2021 - 15:00

Location

Lab 4, E01

Description

This is the weekly QG group meeting.
Speaker: Aritra Banerjee.
Title: "A short and dull tale of long and null strings"

Null or Tensionless limit of string theory is an intriguing 'ultra stringy' regime where extra symmetries appear on the string worldsheet. In this talk I'd like to tell you the story of how this limit can be understood as a consequence of increasingly accelerated worldsheets. I'll also try to convince you how these objects can be thought of as the near-horizon ``long string'' phase of the theory.
