Description
Aryeh Fortinsky is a student from the University of Waterloo, who kindly volunteered to organize a lecture series on the conformal bootstrap!
Abstract:
It has long been known that the fixed points of QFTs under RG flow are CFTs. Doing such RG calculations allows physicists to study the space of QFTs by understanding where the space has RG fixed points. Unfortunately at these fixed points it becomes difficult to use our usual tools to calculate correlation functions, the observables in our theory, due to the extra symmetries. Recently a new method of understanding CFTs has gained momentum, that of the conformal bootstrap. In short, the bootstrap program aims to do physics without Lagrangians! But how can we do this? This is done by focusing on symmetries and consistency conditions of the theory. This lecture series will attempt to provide those who attend with a solid foundation of bootstrap methods and hopefully the ability to start doing research in this new exciting area!
