By the end of the session, you will be able to …
- Set realistic expectations for your scientific journey and reframe the concept of “failure," understanding that failure in science is not intrinsically bad, but rather it is often a part of the process of tackling interesting and challenging problems.
- Develop a cognitive framework in which setbacks are identified as learning experiences and can lead to new and unexpected discoveries (i.e., “growth mindset”).
- Identify individuals who might be able to help you overcome technical or conceptual barriers.
- Prepare for the meeting with your mentor by drafting an agenda, reviewing your My Research Plan, and preparing any documents that you would like to share with your mentor related to your plan.
- Understand a few strategies on how to have a productive meeting with your mentor.
