Art on Saturdays
Weekly Adult Art Classes by Elizabeth Firmage, Rachel Vella, and Christy Brown
Learn different types of art each Saturday, or register for a single class. Instructors will rotate so they each teach a class approximately once a month. You can join as many class dates as you like. Please register anytime, up to the day before the class. Instructors will also send reminder emails before their class.
All classes will be Saturday mornings. Exact times and Fees set by the instructors
All classes will be located in the Ocean View Room, Center Court
Elizabeth’s Art Class - Watercolor Basics
Have you ever wanted to try watercolors, but don’t know where to start? In this class we will learn
basic watercolor techniques, including Washes, Wet on Wet, Wet on Dry, Textures, Lifting, and more.
Along the way, we will also learn about how to mix colors, color theory, composition, and other art
concepts. Each class we will create a small painting to practice a specific technique or two. This
class is perfect for beginners. If you already have watercolor experience, please come as well to
practice your skills or just have painting time. Join as many classes as you like, though each class also stands on its own.

Rachel’s Art Class - Short Comics
Learn how to tell stories through your drawings by making a short comic strip! This class will teach you the fundamentals of sequential art: how to work with different angles to create dramatic effects in your story, how to keep your story consistent, and how to use composition to your advantage! Taught by a storyboard artist in the animation industry, this class will teach you all the tips and tricks you need to bring your story to life on paper.

Christy’s Art Class - Handbuilt Clay Ceramics
Each class will consist of a seasonal or Okinawa themed hand built clay project including Shisa coil plate, parrot fish wall hanging, and sea turtle plate for the fall term. The projects will be dried, and fired twice with the instructor and returned in time for the following lesson the next month.

Materials: Included (clay, tools, glazes, 2 firings)
Class capacity: 4-12 students*

The clay is gray and it can leave permanent marks on white or bright clothes. Please wear something appropriate, either dark or old that you don't mind getting permanently stained. Feel free to bring an apron if you want.
