Title: "Multi-messenger Extended Emission from the compact remnant in GW170817"

Abstract:
The double neutron star merger GW170817 shows post-merger gravitational radiation during GRB170817A at a Gaussian equivalent level of confidence of 4.2ſ. We recently estimated its energy output Ԑ = (3.5±1)%MϾc2 by signal injection experiments, where c is the velocity of light. Ԑ gives calorimetric evidence for a Kerr black hole, formed by collapse of the hyper-massive neutron star produced in the immediate aftermath of this merger. Collapse to a black hole greatly increases the rotational energy EJ of its angular momentum J to a few tenths of a solar mass. EJ hereby accounts for Ԑ even at modest efficiencies in catalytic conversion through a non-axisymmetric thick torus. The associated multi-messenger output in ultra-relativistic outflows and sub-relativistic mass-ejecta is quantitatively consistent with observational constraints from the GRB-afterglow emission of GRB170817A and accompanying kilonova.
