Learning Objectives:

By the end of the session, you will be able to …

  • Explain the concept of SMART (specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, and time bound) goals so that your plan will be implementable and achievable.
  • Create SMART goals for your research project and for the skills you would like to develop this year.
  • Explain the framework for developing a skill (learn, practice, and feedback) so that you can attain greater mastery of your desired skills.
  • Describe how you will keep yourself accountable so that you can achieve your goals.
  • Understand the importance of getting feedback to improve your plan.
  • Understand why a plan needs to be evaluated and modified on a regular basis in order to accommodate changing circumstances, evolving interests, etc.
