Description

Mini Course: Particle Tracking Simulation using Ocean Parcels

Sign up here

Marine Biophysics Unit (Mitarai Unit) is proud to present our short-course for particle tracking modelling using The OceanParcels project's Parcels (Probably A Really Computationally Efficient Lagrangian Simulator), a collection of Python classes and methods for building customizable particle tracking simulations using output from Ocean Circulation models. Due to its Lagrangian simulation approach, Parcels is a computationally intensive application. Parcels can be used to track both passive and active particulates such as water, plankton, plastic, and fish. The course is divided into three sessions, each of which includes guided step-by-step coding exercises from computer setup and installation to output analysis. The model's output can vary depending on one's interests for different goals.

Target audience

This short course is designed for scientists who want to create particle tracking simulations using Ocean Circulation models. Prior Python experience is not required, but it will be advantageous if you have any.
