Description
Dr. Takashi Ikegami is visiting OIST from 2022/08/08 until 2022/12/19 through the "Theoretical Sciences Visiting Program" (TSVP). Find out more about the TSVP in this news article or the program website.
This seminar intended for a general audience and the research will be presented in an accessible manner. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to ask questions after the talk. Guests from outside OIST can join via Zoom.
Title: Collective Intelligence in Living/Nonliving Systems
Abstract: In experiments with biological populations, it is now possible to identify, track, and trace all individuals. Various machine learning methods can also be applied. What new collective knowledge can be seen there as a result: computer simulations of Boids model groups and the evolution of web services show that quantity turns into quality. What are the common properties of these life and non-life populations? In particular, I would like to discuss how Tetrahymena populations evolve over time, how phenotypic changes and its inheritance can be studied.
Profile: Takashi Ikegami is a Professor at the Department of General Systems, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Tokyo. He works in the area of artificial life research. His simulation and experimental research interests include open-ended evolution in artificial life models, experiments with self-moving droplets, large-scale Boids models, and new theories of collective intelligence. He also conducts experiments on consciousness using an android (ALTER-3). At the same time, he has presented performance art (Kugutsu Kagura2020) with ALTER-3 and VR art (SnowCrash at WhiteHouse 2021, Reverse Destiny Bridge at AICHI2022). Personal Homepage
