研究概要 / SUMMARY

Fishes we get in the market, the delicious maguro or the grouper from aquaculture farms, all start as tiny fish larvae that are lost somewhere in the oceanic plankton. But we don’t know how such tiny organism live and survive in an environment as big as the ocean! To address this conundrum, we identified a unique atoll called a remote closed still in the Tuamotous archipelago (in French Polynesia) which is entirely closed but full of fish. This means that in a remote closed still in the Tuamotous archipelago, marine fishes do their entire life cycle within an enclosed space providing us with a unique opportunity for the first time to finally find and study fish larvae in their natural environment. At the end of 2022 we will organize an expedition in this remote atoll, and we hope to succeed in our quest to solve the mystery of the odyssey of essential fish larvae.
