Universities around the world are striving to provide innovative programs and contribute to their regional economies, beyond education and research. As universities re-imagine their role in the innovation pipeline and their economic impact, they must provide the necessary skills to achieve their goals, measure success, and imagine the benefits.

Therefore, OIST will host an international symposium on Tues., March 22 from 9:00 - 17:00 in B250 where 15 experts from around the world will exchange ideas for accelerating innovation at universities. The symposium includes four sessions.

  • Session 1: Two Keynote Perspectives on the role of innovation in the university mission (Dr. Rita Colwell, Distinguished Professor, University of Maryland, USA and Dr. Yuko Harayama, Executive Member, Council of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy, Japan Cabinet Office). The keynotes will be followed by a moderated dialogue.
  • Session 2: Panel discussion on nuts-and-bolts mechanisms to support innovation from the university to the private sector, from technology licensing to incubators to entrepreneurial educational programs.
  • Session 3: Analyzing, measuring, and evaluating innovation programs
  • Session 4: Innovation that benefits Society

Japanese and English simultaneous translation provided throughout the event. University members who want to increase their innovation output, representatives of the emerging ecosystem of investors and partners of universities, and government representatives focused on fostering innovation are encouraged to attend.
