Description

Title: Neutral-Atom Based Quantum Computing with 171Yb Nuclear-Spin Qubits

Speaker: Dr Sebastian Pucher, Quantum Engineer at Atom Computing, Boulder, Colorado, USA

Abstract:
Fault-tolerant quantum computing will require architectures that scale to large, unprecedented qubit numbers while maintaining low error rates for state preparation, mid-circuit readout, and single- and two-qubit gate operations, enabling quantum error correction and logical computation. In this talk, I will present progress toward these goals at Atom Computing using neutral ytterbium atoms trapped in optical-tweezer arrays. Key advances include an iterative approach to assembling and maintaining large atomic arrays, a method for selective mid-circuit qubit readout, and high-fidelity gates based on protocols tailored to the alkaline-earth(-like) level structure of ytterbium. Integrated into a programmable platform for arbitrary circuit execution, these capabilities enable the creation of large entangled states and encoded logical qubits central to fault-tolerant architectures.
