Short Abstract and Biography: Martin Hällberg obtained his PhD degree at the University of Uppsala in 2002 and is currently a group leader in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.  The main focus of his lab is on the biochemistry of mitochondrial gene expression with a special focus on RNA biogenesis. The research is aimed at a molecular understanding of the coupling between mitochondrial disease and defects in mitochondrial gene expression. In his talk, Martin will present recent structural and functional work on the very first steps of mitochondrial RNA processing.
