TSVP Talk: "Robot Learning: Where Science Meets Fiction" by Jochen Steil
**TSVP Talks new starting time from April 2023: Thursdays at 3pm!
This time only in B250, usually the location will be L4E48.**
Title: Robot Learning: Where Science Meets Fiction
Abstract: Robotics and learning have always been an intriguing combination that has been featured in numerous works of fiction and constitutes an exciting research field as well. How far are we away from the universal learning robot that might provide assistance or become an ultimate threat? What is science, what is fiction? To answer such questions we need to reflect our anthropomorphic prejudices and calmly assess the power and promise of robot learning methods likewise. The talk thus takes a journey through recent work, including ours on motion learning, imitation learning and model learning in robotics.
Profile: Jochen Steil is a Professor of Robotics at the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany. He has a background in neural networks and AI with applications in robot learning and coordinated large scale European projects in robotics and robot learning including H2020 CogIMon (Cognitive Compliant Motion in Interaction). His research interests reach from recurrent neural networks over robot learning and human-machine interaction to applications for flexible production and the future of work in the digital society.
