“Thermodynamics and dynamics of the classical Heisenberg model on kagome lattices : An introduction.”

Dr. Mathieu Taillefumier, Theory of Quantum Matter Unit, OIST

(Former Affiliation: Institute for Theoretical Physics, Goethe University)

Thu, 19th Sep at 13:30-14:30 in C016, Lab1, Campus

The classical Heisenberg on the kagome lattice has the subject of many studies in the past decade. Despite its simplicity, this model has a very rich physics (like many models that have frustrated interactions) and a complex dynamics. After presenting known fact about the thermodynamics of this model, I will concentrate on its dynamics that reveals to be far more complex than the dynamics of the same model on pyrochlore lattices for instance. In particular, although the model is isotropic the dynamics of the low temperature is not. I will also give arguments that the entropic selection also known as the mechanism of order by disorder is responsible for this anisotropic dynamics.
